Good Taste Spicy Soup @ Seri Kembangan

Good news is coming to town! There is a brand new restaurant in Seri Kembangan that is selling the famous Hakka Spicy Soup. If you are interested in visiting the restaurant, other than trying out their signature spicy soup, it is a must to give their Hakka Taufu Pok a try as well. Not going to lie, you will be surprised by how good the dish is.

You will be able to see a nice traditional Chinese decoration right in front of the main door of the restaurant.

As many of you may not know, Seri Kembangan (SK) is being known as a Hakka village owing to a large amount of the Hakka people living here. Very often, you will hear people speaking the Hakka dialect no matter if you are on the street or the market. And for that reason, SK is jam-packed with tons of savoury Hakka cuisines where most people called the place as a "food paradise". In recent years, there are a booming number of new restaurants opening around SK and Good Taste Spicy Soup that is located on the upper floor at the right-hand side of Shang Noodle Cafe is definitely one of them. If you have been following my post on last week, you will definitely know where Shang Noodle Cafe is, but if you are new to my blog, do not worry, just click here and check it out!

The restaurant was packed with tables of families.

To my surprise, the restaurant was pretty crowded when my family and I first walked in. Fortunately enough, there is still one table left so we managed to secure it before someone comes in again. It seemed like this place filled up very fast during dinner hours, I would highly recommend you to make a reservation in advance before you come. At first glance, the restaurant was very clean, simple, and bright but it was not as spacious as we first thought. At every corner of the restaurant, you will be able to witness some aesthetic Chinese paintings on the cream-coloured walls.

Spicy Soup @ RM32 (2 pax)
★★★☆☆

We were first served with a bowl of their signature spicy soup (lat thong in Hakka). The clear broth was loaded with chicken, pork meatballs, enoki mushrooms, and fish maws topping with celery leaves. For your information, you are free to customise the soup by picking whatever ingredients you would like to have in the soup and the price for each ingredient varies. Owing to the fact that my dad was never a fan of porcine food, therefore we only have pork meatballs in our broth. Do not get cheated by the clear-looking broth because the soup itself contains a lot of tiny "time bombs", which is crushed peppercorns that gives you an intensive spicy kick at the back of your tongue. Having a bowl of this hot and spicy soup on rainy days would be perfect.

Hakka Taufu Pok @ RM13
★★★★☆

I would say this hakka taufu pok (tofu puff in English) tasted surprisingly good. Upon having the first bite, you will be able to feel the fragrance of it because the fish paste is laden with chopped spring onions inside and juices will be popping out into your mouth. This dish reminds me of my mum's cooking because it is actually one of my mum's specialty as well. Love it!

Claypot Chicken with curry leaves @ RM16
★★★☆☆

We also tried their claypot chicken with curry leaves. Every piece of the chicken was coated with thick, dark, and caramelised soy sauce which goes well with a bowl of white rice. The chicken pieces were extremely tender and soft to chew on. Not the best we have tried, but still tasted pretty decent.

Okra with Preserved Mustard Greens @ RM12
★★☆☆☆

Last but not least, we also gave their special dish - okra with preserved mustard greens a try for a balanced meal. No offense, I personally felt that it tasted weird and it does not suit my palate that much because this is actually my first eating okra being fried together with preserved mustard greens. The dish was like a mixture of saltiness and sourness which I am not a fan of. However, this is only my personal opinion. Do come and try it yourself because it is not easy to find this unique dish anywhere else.

Although the majority of the dishes were not entirely cheap, but it is worth to come in and have dinner once in awhile. We were very satisfied with most of them we tried and we really like the homey and comfy ambiance of the restaurant.
